After WWII, a US Navy officer used Hitler’s personal stationery to write this letter to his son. The full letter, which was written by future CIA director Richard helms, reads:

“Dear Dennis,

The man who might have written on this card once controlled Europe– three short years ago when you were born. Today he is dead, his memory despised, his country in ruins. He had a thirst for power, a low opinion of man as an individual, and a fear of intellectual honesty. He was a force for evil in the world. His passing, his defeat – a boon for mankind. But thousands died that it might be so. The price for ridding society of bad is always high.

Love, Daddy.“

Wow. Perfectly describes a certain politician to a tee.

When you love someone, you open yourself up to suffering. That’s the sad truth. Maybe they’ll break your heart, maybe you’ll break their heart and never be able to look at yourself in the same way. Those are the risks. The thought of losing so much control over personal happiness is unbearable. That’s the burden. Like wings, they have weight, we feel that weight on our backs, but they are a burden that lifts us. Burdens which allow us to fly.

I feel productive already. I’m working my day shift, and by 6am I’ve already done my workout, my lunch is 75% done, and all I have to do later is finish packing (bathroom, Christmas gifts), and get coffee ready so I can leave first thing tomorrow morning.

Oh, I need to steal milk from work (what?), and stop by Wegmans for creamer and eggnog. Easy.

My abs hurt.

Got this in an email from the New York Public Library. I love it.

Favourite Line From Modern Family

True story. I used this quote in my maid of honor speech for my sister. I wrote out a template for my speech, which I forgot. Totally slipped my mind. So 5 minutes before my speech I was writing this quote on a cocktail napkin. And of course the best man had a typed speech that he took a personal day from work to write.

I’m still trying to process the election and what comes next. I took a step and made a few donations, but there’s more to be done obviously. It’s tough sitting around waiting to see what comes. I definitely will be making calls to legislative reps to encourage them to represent my views on current cabinet elections, and will continue to look for ways to make a difference besides donations.

I’m not sure what I think yet. Trump potentially could rival W for ineptness, but I’m worried about the Middle East conflict and Trump’s ties to Russia. I’m also scared of Pence, honestly fucking terrified, because Pence displays a greater threat to to multiple issues I worry about. I worry about the alt-right threat, the impact of Brexit then Trump on global politics, and where progress goes from here.

I can’t wish failure on him, it only gives the country and world failure. The next several most powerful political figures are terrifying too. The waiting game sucks. This sucks.

I need to marry Canadian stat.

(and those who don’t consider themselves progressives but are horrified by the appointment of a white supremacist as White House Chief Strategist)

Please, please act.

If you have found yourself in a social media frenzy, reblogging memes and links, loudly expressing your opinion on facebook and twitter, wearing safety pins, without tackling real, actionable items that can actually make a difference?

You. are. not. helping.

If your social media presence is but one facet of your social activism, carry on–this post is not directed at you. If it’s not, read on.

Get out of the masturbatory, self-congratulatory feedback loop and do something. Posting to social media is NOT ENOUGH.

If you can, donate to organizations that fight to protect those who need protecting most in this country. Here’s a long list of good candidates, but my short list would be the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, the NAACP, and SPLC. If you can’t donate, consider finding ways to volunteer.

The most important thing you can do right now is to contact your senators and House rep and put their feet to the fire, telling them to publicly denounce Bannon’s appointment. Find your representatives here. And don’t just email or @ them on Twitter–these correspondences are taken far less seriously than phone calls. Get on the phone. It takes less than five minutes per call. Do it, and do it now. And keep doing it if your reps remain silent. We know that this appointment is not subject to congressional approval, but if Trump wants to keep up any pretense of “uniting” the country, he’ll have no choice but to respond to a vocal Congress. Make sure they know eyes are on them. Silence is complicity.

We cannot be complacent. We cannot assume that others will do the work. We cannot be lazy internet SJWs who let the marginalized do all the heavy lifting because we’re not the ones being threatened.

In short: put up or shut up. And if this hurts your delicate feelings, I really don’t fucking care. We have so much work to do, and we need all goddamn hands on deck.

I’ve actually send emails to my state representatives and have already heard back from a few and they have expressed feeling exactly how I feel and are looking into what they can do. I emailed them back asking for them to let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

It works if you work it. Please reach out to them, they are human beings like us.

Okay you guys! It’s super easy! Click the link above to find your state representatives and then pick up the phone!! I called all five of mine in less than five minutes and even found out the fabulous news that one of them already denounced the appointment of Steve Bannon in a press release!! 🙌🙌🙌 The others hadn’t made any comments yet but they gladly took my comment and are going to pass it on. But I’m just one person!

It’ll take more to create a voice!! Pick up the phone!! Do your part. Don’t just sit around and hope things go the way you want.

Complacency doesn’t make change happen.

This is America, this is the ideal. All different kinds of people from many different places with different religions and cultures and identities all in close proximity. Look how relaxed they are with each other, all these strangers. This is what is great about America. This is NYC where Donald Trump is from, they are all at ease, they could be in a living room together. We are sharing our public transportation. 4 blocks from Trump Tower. This works. We live peaceably together and our lives are richer because of each other. Don’t buy the lie that somehow these differences mean we don’t love the same nor want the same things for our children and friends. Incidentally the most diverse states also happen to be the strongest economically and socially. This is the great American experience. This is what makes America great. Not our divisions exclusion and hate. Don’t buy into the lie. #standingForLove #RejectHate

I work right across the street from the graveyard where Susan B Anthony is buried. I went after work, hoping I could thank her for the first female president.

Instead this election hurts more than I actually anticipated. We took progress and drove a stake of hatred and rage into it. America isn’t the same as it was yesterday.

I saw the result at 4am, and vowed to try to make an impact during these next 4 years. I carry privilege as a white female, and there are plenty in this country who need a voice after yesterday. I don’t know how to do it, but I want to use yesterday to fuel myself into action somehow.

I can’t fix America. I want to find a way to help those who will need it though.

current state of things

I cracked under pressure and got wifi after maybe 4 years. Maybe less. Who knows.

Definitely ran into an ex at work. Not sure if he know who I was, it was 7 years ago, I’m a very different person, and I’m so much hotter and smarter and cooler, but yeah, not cool. Next time dude, heparinize that line faster, no time for you.

Hockey is back and I’m feeling so two seasons ago with Eichel out. And a crap goalie situation. And I’m thinking Crosby looks less like a horse and more attractive with a beard so there’s that.

I need to get laid apparently, after rereading that.

At work, I successfully precepted Lauren, and I’m about to train for charge. People apparently trust me. Also I spent 6 hours at a bar with my boss earlier this month. He offered to buy me my second beer, and then bought everyone pizza.

I hung curtains in my living room and bought 8 feet of plywood. DIY for the win guys. (definitely not for the wine)

I tried to do a headstand last week and fell over backwards. That was funny.
